Rogers Middle School Hosts Hackathon!

Will Rogers Middle School hosted the third installment of the South Bay Hackathon Series, an event which featured a question and answer session with a panel of engineers and then an engineering challenge for students. For the engineering challenge, students were placed in teams of 4—with one member from each of the participating schools, so that each school would take home a 1st place winner.  Students from Will Rogers Middle School, Dana Middle School, Jefferson Middle School, and Manhattan Beach Middle School participated in this event. The students were also treated to lunch donated by Panda Express.

“We are so grateful to the engineers who volunteered their time to coach our students,” said Tracy Tegtmeier, Northrop Grumman Teacher Fellow. The event was made possible through the Northrop Grumman Foundation Teachers Academy, which is a Northrop Grumman Foundation sponsored initiative and National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).

The Hackathon was created with the goal to connect students to local professionals and to engage students in applied STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities, help the students build the necessary skillset needed to succeed in competitive college and career engineering pathways, and inspire young people to choose STEM careers.
