WELCOME TO THE LAWNDALE EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM!

Lawndale School District Early Education Program provides three school readiness opportunities for children ages 0-5 and their families, a classroom program and two home visitation programs. There are no tuition fees.

The programs are funded through the California Department of Education (CDE) - Child Development Division and First 5 LA. The programs are free, except for a small fee for food for families who qualify for the classroom program through First 5 LA guidelines.

Classroom Preschool Program

The Preschool Program provides a preschool classroom experience for 3 and 4-year-old children in a center-based setting. Families qualify by income or reside within the Lawndale School District boundaries.

This program operates at six school sites: Addams, Anderson, Carson, Green, Mitchell, and Twain. Most of the sites enroll 24 children in the morning class and 24 in the afternoon class. Generally, the preschool calendar follows the school district calendar, although occasionally the preschool calendar is extended beyond that of the school district calendar.

The program is completely free to families who qualify under the Department of Education guidelines. For families accepted into the program through First 5 LA there is a small fee for food.

Home Visitation Programs

Two free home visitation programs are available to provide a learning experience for 0 to 5 year old children in a home-based setting. Families must reside within the Lawndale School District boundaries.

The first program is HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters). It provides a home visitor who comes once-a-week to the 3, 4, or 5 year old child’s home and brings materials, books, and a lesson plan that is very easy to understand and follow. Parents learn the week’s lesson from the home visitor by role playing and then work with their own child for 15 minutes a day for 5 days a week. The program is free.

The other home visiting program program is PAT (Parents As Teachers), for children 0 to 3 years old in which a parent educator visits the home on a monthly basis with video and print information and parent-child interaction ideas and activities designed to build the child’s capacity in the social, motor, language, and cognitive areas. The program is free.
